LAS VEGAS, NV — HOPE for Prisoners is pleased to announce the recent, unanimous election of LVMPD Undersheriff Andy Walsh to serve on the Board of Directors.  Sheriff Walsh will serve as a Director on the Board of the nonprofit organization based in Las Vegas, NV that provides comprehensive reentry services to formerly incarcerated populations. 

“We have been in a longstanding working relationship with LVMPD which has proven to make a marked impact in our community.  We are so honored to have Andy joining our Board of Directors.  As we grow and expand, his experience and dedication to reentry in Southern Nevada will be a tremendous asset as he helps to guide the organization.” says HOPE for Prisoners CEO, Jon Ponder.

Andrew Walsh is an Undersheriff with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Originally from Staten Island, New York, he began his law enforcement career in New York City as a member of the New York City Police Department.

Andrew has held a variety of assignments throughout his career, including Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Academy Staff Member, Public Information Officer, Internal Affairs Lieutenant, Captain of Downtown Area Command, Deputy Chief of Tourist Safety and Homeland Security Divisions. He was recently promoted to Undersheriff. 

He is currently assigned to Law Enforcement Administration and Detention Group (LEA&DG).  

As the Undersheriff of LEA&DG, he directly supervises deputy chiefs and Counsel for Labor Relations; coordinates their work; identifies training needs; participates in the development of strategic plans; develops and oversees the implementation of goals, objectives, policies and procedures; serves as team leader for complex, multi-year projects; reviews and oversees an effective disciplinary system; works with legal advisors to ensure operations are ethical and legal;  reviews and oversees complex, multi-year projects; serves as department liaison with heads of other law-enforcement agencies, other jurisdictions, business and labor.
