At 16, Quasheen entered the juvenile system. By 19, he was out. But freedom didn’t come with direction. In 2015, he caught his first adult charge. Since then, his journey in and out of the system became heartbreakingly familiar.
He first encountered HOPE for Prisoners in 2018 after his first release from Nevada Department of Corrections. He completed the workshop, got a job, and then drifted. The support was there, but he didn’t stay connected. “That’s a story in itself,” he told us, “Because doing it this time around proves that the program works, if you work it.”
This time, when he was released on March 14, 2025, things were different.
Quasheen came back to HOPE and didn’t just attend the workshop, he committed. He dove into every class HOPE for Prisoners had to offer. He has a strong presence in the NA community and has reconnected with his two children. With the direction and help from HOPE’s Work Force Team and dedicated Case Manager, he found employment. Most importantly, he found purpose.
And then things started to move fast.
On June 2, 2025, Quasheen was referred to Valvoline through HOPE. Just four days later, he was offered a position as an oil change technician. He showed up every day, worked hard, and earned the respect of his team. By July, he was a certified technician and received a raise. His manager told us, “Quasheen is doing an exceptional job, we’re so glad to have him on our team.”
And as of today, Quasheen received another promotion. He’s now a Senior Certified Technician, earning $19.50/hour, trusted with keys to open the store and handle deposits, a level of responsibility that speaks volumes about his transformation.
He told us about the pain of prison: the violence, the isolation, the overdose deaths. “I saw more death in prison than I ever did on the streets,” he said. “That changed me.”
But what changed him more was what came after, vulnerability, faith, and action. “I cracked open a Bible. I got up every day, made coffee, read scripture, worked out. I stopped pretending to be who others wanted me to be. I started living like my life mattered.”
And it does.
When we asked him what he’s looking forward to now that he has this new lease on life, he didn’t hesitate: “Breaking the generational curse. Changing the narrative of what society and statistics say.”
Today, Quasheen is not just staying out of prison, he’s building a future. He’s a present father. He’s earning trust.
And he’s giving back.
In just the last month and a half, Quasheen has made five separate donations to HOPE for Prisoners. Not for recognition, but because he’s committed to being part of the solution. “This program helped me get the job that allows me to give back. I love being able to donate to something I know works.”
“I’m just happy to be on this side of it now, helping someone else the way someone helped me.”
“I want to be a blessing to somebody, because someone was a blessing to me.”
